If you ever change jobs, the benefits you have built up can remain in the fund or be transferred to another pension scheme.
If you ever return to local government employment you can re-join the LGPS.
Can I opt out of the LGPS?
Although membership of the fund is automatic in many cases, it isn't compulsory - you can cancel your membership at any time. This is known as 'opting-out'.

Apart from the main retirement benefits, you will lose out on extras, such as ill health cover. You may wish to get independent financial advice before opting out.
