Local government reorganisation

Local government reorganisation

On the 25 March 2026, central government announced plans for local government reorganisation (LGR) in Norfolk.
Government has said it is “minded to” support three unitary councils for Norfolk. There is no immediate change as a result of this announcement.

While the new councils are expected to be established from April 2028, this won’t be a single “switch-over” moment.
Any changes will be planned, phased and communicated over time.

Changes to the structure of local government in Norfolk will not affect your LGPS benefits – your pension is safe and guaranteed.
